2014 Miller's Creek
Crafted from Leon Millot this wine reveals notes of red berries and spiced apple jelly. Pairs well with cheese and meat.
The 2014 growing season got off to a rocky start. A colder than average winter damaged some buds reducing the crop. A late spring frost killed off many shoots further reducing the crop. Post-tropical storm Arthur blew through during bloom destroying shoots and flowers reducing the crop yet again and causing a lot of extra work in the vineyard. Summer was fairly average but autumn was near perfect with warm dry weather allowing the surviving fruit to be harvested well in advance of frost at a level of ripeness not seen since 2010.
Cool-fermented in stainless steel to maintain clean red fruit flavours. Miller’s Creek is fresh and crisp with a touch of balancing sweetness. This wine was pressed after nineteen days in contact with skins making it light and easy-drinking. Miller’s Creek is best enjoyed slightly chilled.
The nose shows notes of red berries and spiced apple with savoury herbal tones and wet stone mineral elements. The palate is medium bodied and fresh with mineral notes and red berries leading to smooth tannins mid-palate. Cinnamon, spiced-apple, and mineral notes appear on the finish.
